You know what we need every single winter? Mittens!

Learn the basic construction of a women's size mitten with Jennifer C. and Kathleen P. on Tuesdays, December 1, 8, 15 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

For this project you need a heavy worsted weight (also called Aran) yarn, preferably wool, and a gauge of 18 stitches per four inches. The pattern recommends needle sizes 5 and 7, but the more important detail is to obtain gauge. Let us know before class if you need help understanding gauge. You also need stitch holders, scrap yarn, or barber cord for separating stitches for the thumb.

Jennifer and Kathleen will teach this class together: Jennifer has tips and tricks for working two mittens at a time on circular needles, and Kathleen has tips for using double-point needles (DPNs) and adjusting a pattern to fit different sizes.

You can use a remnant of a second color to make a contrasting edge on the sleeve of your mittens, but it is not required (unless you want to practice changing colors).
